Position Purpose:

The Electrical/Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Technician, as part of the Design Services team, will play an important role in helping Clear Water as we grow quickly and expand into providing new services, work in new geographic areas, and solve new water treatment problems. The Electrical/PLC Technician will perform a variety of tasks related to electrical and control system drafting, design, and programming, as well as provide support to project managers, field technicians, and other technical staff as needed. This position will be expected to also perform various duties and special assignments within the Design Services Department.

Position Description and Responsibilities:

As the Electrical/PLC Technician, you will work closely within the Control and Electrical Systems teams as well as with the Production Manager and other project staff. You will assist with programming and assembly of PLCs and associated componentry within the treatment system, provide field support to resolve equipment and system electrical issues, and troubleshoot or repair PLC and electrical components/equipment. This position will also focus on the revision and updating of existing drawings and collaboration with shop and field technicians to accurately reflect design changes and to ensure consistent documentation. The Electrical/PLC Technician will also help support research and development efforts in control system design. The following essential functions are listed in order of priority, with associated anticipated workload:

  • Field support of programming and electrical components of onsite control systems  (40%)
  • Ongoing programming support to operations as needed (30%)
  • Performs system startup programming and data collection setup (15%)
  • PLC code library maintenance and organization of asset management files (10%)
  • Other duties as assigned (5%)

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to identify electrical problems with a variety of testing devices, such as multi-meter and megger
  • PLC programming in at least one of the following: Allen-Bradley RSLogix 500, Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal/S7, Modicon, GP-Pro EX WindLDR and/or others, with emphasis on the RSLogix 500
  • Computer literacy, proficiency in Microsoft products, and some general networking knowledge within Windows 1o
  • Ability to read and modify electrical and electronic schematic drawings and one-line riser diagrams, with a high degree of accuracy
  • Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to solve practical problems and work independently

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering, electronics, control systems, etc.
  • Software experience: C-More EA9, Windows CC, Simatic S7, Studio 5000, SCADA (InduSoft)
  • Experience with electrical schematics
  • 2D AutoCAD with electrical drawing experience
  • Experience with water treatment systems a plus

Working Environment and Physical Demands:

Work is performed in Clear Water’s functional production shop, with programming and probe work done inside offices. The position will be expected to interface with shop personnel during which all employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas. Must be able to work under inclement weather conditions in a construction or industrial environment, both outside and inside.
