Position Purpose:

The Senior Control Systems Engineer, as part of the Design Services team, will play an important role in helping Clear Water as we grow quickly and expand into providing new services, work in new geographic areas, and solve new water treatment problems. The Senior Control Systems Engineer will perform a variety of tasks related to electrical and control system drafting, design, and programming, as well as provide support to project managers, field technicians, and other technical staff as needed. This position will be expected to be an active member of Clear Water’s Process Control Steering Team by identifying and leading continuous Process Control Improvement efforts and perform various duties and special assignments within the team.

Position Description and Responsibilities:

As the Senior Control Systems Engineer you will work closely within the Control and Electrical Systems teams, as well as with the Production Manager and other project staff. You will identify and scope new projects, contribute to project teams, track and control project budget, timing, and quality as you support both commercial (rental) and industrial operations with design, commissioning, troubleshooting, process optimization and various process improvement projects. You will work with various purchasing, vendors, maintenance, contractors, operators, and other team members to complete projects. You will aid in and support the development of project scopes while maintaining proper communications, schedule, and budget tracking with other supervision and management. The following essential functions are listed in order of priority, with associated anticipated workload:

  • Create, update, and maintain user interface graphics using Automation Direct C-More; ladder logic, function block and structured text programming in Allen Bradley Studio 5000 and RSLogix500 program environments (40%)
  • Specification, design, and drawing generation for new control and instrumentation systems, ethernet-based control networks, and other projects (30%)
  • Create and maintain process documentation including control docs, P&IDs, process control procedures, design basis procedures, data sheets, I/O lists, etc. (15%)
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation and control system problems remotely, and/or assist process techs in troubleshooting and setup of equipment as needed (10%)
  • Provide training, support, and supervision to operators and process technicians (5%)

 

Other duties may include the following:

 

  • Field support for water treatment
  • Technical support for Field Operations and Project Managers, as needed

Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Process Control, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3-years’ experience in Industrial or Municipal Water/Wastewater/Environmental Control Systems (PLC and Motor Controls)
  • Experience in Automation or Process Control
    • PLC Programming
    • AC & DC motor control experience, including drives
    • Process Control Networking
    • HMI/SCADA Maintenance and Design
    • Experience in Control System documentation using MS Office and AutoCAD
  • Extensive programming and operating experience with Allen Bradley CompactLogix, RSLogix, RSLinx, and Automation Direct C-More
  • Ability to create, read, and modify electrical and control diagrams, PDFs, and P&IDs
  • Demonstrated ability to design, maintain, troubleshoot, and document cellular modem networks, ethernet networks, wireless networks including WIFI and Bluetooth devices
  • Experience in purchasing and setting up new control systems and instrumentation systems
  • Hands-on experience with a wide range of instrumentation (level, pressure, control valves, flowmeters, pH, temperature, conductivity, VFD’s, etc.)
  • Hands-on operating experience with the following unit ops is preferred (clarifiers, GAC, and inorganic adsorption, filtration systems, centrifugal and metering pumps, PLC control systems
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated team leadership and supervision skills; ability to perform with minimum supervision
  • Skills is MS Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint, as well as AutoCAD software
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills
  • Must be punctual, organized, motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work in a drug-free environment


Working Environment and Physical Demands:

Work is often performed in Clear Water’s functional production shop, with programming and probe work done inside offices. This position will be expected to interface with shop personnel during which all employees are required to follow safety standards an wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas. Must be able to work under inclement weather conditions in a construction or industrial environment, both outside and inside. Must have travel flexibility as necessary.
