Clear Water was contacted by a heavy industrial facility outside of Indianapolis that manufactures various polymers used in commercial paint products. Prior to treatment, the facility used 1200 gallons of municipal freshwater per day in the polymer manufacturing processes. After use, the wastewater was classified with a hazardous designation, so the facility consolidated and stored it for regular disposal via deep well injection, at a significant cost. Inspired by the opportunity to save disposal costs and protect the water environment, the company contracted Clear Water Services to design a process to reduce concentrations of the industrial wastewater contaminant, allowing the water to be hauled away without the hazardous designation. Ultimately, Clear Water Services was able to achieve significantly more for the client. Using data from a treatability study, Clear Water Services developed a five-phase system approach. The designed system currently reduces the contaminant by 99.74%, and the water is clean enough to reuse in industrial processes rather than being disposed of off-site. Clear Water Services’ approach saves the customer the cost of disposal as well as the cost of 1200 gallons of municipal freshwater per day.
