About the Role: 

The Field Technician as part of the operations team will often work independently performing operations and maintenance on water treatment equipment, but at times be able to work as a team. The successful candidate will have a mechanical skillset, construction experience and feel comfortable operating tools and machinery. This role will at times support our shop maintenance/ fabrication team on equipment readiness, QA/QC and fabrication. Additionally, this role requires knowledge of water treatment systems or the aptitude to learn. This role requires frequent travel throughout the Puget Sound region, and the ability to maintain a flexible work schedule. 

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Operates and monitors water treatment equipment (pumps, filters, chemical delivery and water quality monitoring systems) according to the operational parameters after demonstration of proficiency to other lead technicians or supervisors.
  • Collect and analyze a variety of water quality samples using handheld equipment, field instruments, and laboratory methods.
  • Performs bench scale treatability experiments (jar tests) to determine appropriate dose rates.
  • Calibrates water quality instrumentation and chemical injection systems in accordance with technology specific use designations and equipment specifications.
  • Conducts residual chemistry testing experiments to ensure system effluent meets water quality standards.
  • Monitors and assesses system performance. Troubleshoot and optimize systems as needed to maximize performance and efficiency to maintain water quality parameters.
  • Maintains field logs and essential paperwork.
  • Maintains onsite chemical & lab supplies inventory.
  • Conducts basic system maintenance and informs supervisors of any equipment operational problems.
  • Conducts Certified Erosion and Sediment Control inspections (CESCL).
  • Adheres to company and site specific health & safety policies, including wearing proper PPE at all times. 
  • Adheres to federal, state and local environmental regulations.
  • Escalates issues as necessary.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications: 

  • Able to obtain certifications for both Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL), and Chemical Enhanced Sand Filtration Operator (CESF) through an Ecology-approved CESCL training course (Clear Water will provide training).
  • Fundamental knowledge of high-pressure sand filter systems.
  • Fundamental knowledge of water quality discharge regulations.
  • Fundamental knowledge of water quality testing procedures and methods.
  • Basic knowledge of water pumping and piping systems.
  • Experience in mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience with safe use and operation of a variety of hand and powered tools and equipment.
  • Excellent organizational abilities, customer service and communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
  • Must be able to effectively interface with customers and vendors in a fast paced environment.
  • Must be a team player and help out where needed yet motivated to work independently.
  • Some weekends and nights will be required in certain business case scenarios, this may include holidays. 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Previous experience working in the following industries, construction, wastewater, stormwater, process water. 
  • Previous experience with electrical components.
  • Previous experience working on pumps, installing or maintaining plumbing and conveyance systems.
  • Fundamental knowledge of standard erosion and sediment control practices.
  • Experience in the operations, maintenance, and repairs of single phase and three phase motors.
  • Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing pump, motor, and fluid system issues.
  • Knowledge of both low voltage and high voltage electrical systems.
  • Ability to read, understand, and work from basic CAD drawings including construction documents, wiring diagrams, and plumbing schematics.

Pre-Job Requirements: 

  • Background check required. 
  • Pre employment drug screening.
  • Must be willing to travel and work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. 

Work Conditions and Physical Requirements:  

Most of the work is performed on a construction site outside but will require occasional time working in a warehouse setting or at a desk. Physical requirements of the position include walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods, lifting heavy objects (50 lbs or more), climbing, crouching, operating tools, and wearing appropriate PPE at all times.
