The Materials Recovery Facility in San Francisco opened in 2002 and is approximately 185,000 ft2 in size. The facility processes approximately 750 tons of commingled materials every day. It is the largest exporter of waste paper on the West Coast.Throughout the site, multiple sampling locations in 2015 through 2018 exceeded numeric action levels (NALs) for Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Oil & Grease (O&G) and heavy metals, as well as Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD).
